Alexandra is a writer who works from her home of the beautiful county of Cornwall. Her writing attempts to delve into nature and place, exploring the influences that humans have on their surroundings and vice versa, weaving in folklore and history.
Alexandra works with multiple publications including The Guardian’s Country Diary, BBC Wildlife and BBC Countryfile. She previously wrote a regular series about British trees for The Countryman and a monthly nature series for Campaign to Protect Rural England, as well as columns on wild mammals for Small Furry Pets and walking in Cornwall for Cornwall Life. She has written for wildlife and nature charities, including developing promotional material such as guidebooks, leaflets, website pages and signage, and took part in a special blog for The Wildlife Trust’s 30 Days Wild in 2023. She is currently partnered with the 2 Minute Foundation creating social media posts based on weekly nature news and previously wrote nature-based meditation stories for the ‘Carbon Unwind’ app.
Alexandra’s work has featured in three books; ‘Private Archibald Browne is Remembered’ published in ‘Under Changing Skies’ an anthology of the best pieces from The Guardian’s Country Diary 2018-2024, The Wildlife Trust’s ‘Summer’ anthology with an essay on the mayfly, and ‘Halcyon Daze’ published in Terra Incognita’s 2018 wildlife blogger collection. The latter piece was highlighted on BBC Radio Cornwall in 2020. She wrote a special piece about pregnancy and apple trees published on her website alongside a fiction story based upon the life of a horse chestnut tree.
Alexandra previously worked in conservation and saw her work win a wildlife award in 2020 and she oversaw the delivery of campaigns, wrote press releases, and was a spokesperson for the charity. She sits on the committee for the award-winning Cornwall Mammal Group and is their newsletter editor and runs their social media.
